LV: Baltic Ports handled cargo volume up by 15% y/y in January.

The volume of cargo reloaded by all Baltic States ports went up by 14.9% y/y to 15mn tons in January 2012, Central Statistical Bureau reported. Out of that 46.8% accounted for Latvian ports, 24.6% in Lithuanian ports and 28.6% in Estonian ports. Latvian ports also posted the steepest cargo turnover growth in January (36.4% y/y to 7mn tons). Port of Riga was the leader in terms of handled cargo with 3.93mn tons (25.8% y/y growth), followed by Port of Tallinn with 2.9mn tons (down 2.6% y/y) and Klaipeda port with 2.88mn tons (down 9.4% y/y). According to the report by Communication Ministry the volume of cargo reloaded by Latvian ports went up by 12.5% y/y to 68.8mn tons in 2011. Port of Riga handled 34.05mn tons, up by 11.7% y/y.
