LV: airBaltic CEO ready to buy out the state's stake.

By bne IntelliNews September 29, 2010
As announced by the CEO of national air carrier Bertold Flik to industry portal nozare.lv, he is ready to buy out the state's stake in the company, should the opportunity to finance such a deal be found. To remind, Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas (BAS) controlled by Flik owns 47.2% of airBaltic shares, the rest owned by the state. PM Valdis Dombrovskis commented that selling a stake in airBaltic is not on government's agenda, despite speculations on the issue in the press. At the same time, when asked if airBaltic board intends to publish the controversial shareholders' agreement, Flik noted that he is not going to communicate on the issue with the press and will approach Dombrovskis directly. As reported, tensions between Flik and the government grow, as last week PM Dombrovskis demanded that State Prosecutors Office reviews the agreement on running airBaltic board between BAS and the government, which was signed by ex-Communication Minister Ainars Slesers during his last week in office and sufficiently limits government's influence on BAS. PM stressed that it wasn't approved by the parliament, neither by the cabinet.
