Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite drove to Polish president's Lech Kaczynski funeral as the volcanic ash cloud halted all the flights. Linas Balsys, spokesman of the president, said that Grybauskaite left early in Sunday morning and had to drive for 11 hours to cover 760 km to Krakow . Many world leaders such as US president Barack Obama, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were stranded by the volcanic ash cloud and closed airspace, and could not make it to the funeral. Former Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkus missed the funeral because of his visit to the US last week. |
