LT: 0.9mn people receive pension payments in Lithuania.

In Lithuania total of 934,200 people received pension payments as of end-2009, Statistics Lithuania announced. The people receiving pension payments accounted for 28.1% of the population. Almost 66% of the people receiving pension payments were women as of end-2009. According to the European pension classification methodology, 75% of all pensioners were receiving pensions for old age, 20% received disability pensions. 85% of the old age pensioners received pension payments from the national social insurance fund Sodra. In 2009 total spending on pensions amounted to LTL 8.8bn (EUR 2.5bn), which indicates increase by 6% y/y. According to Eurostat data, pensions expenditure accounted for 6.6% of total GDP, which is below the EU average of 11.8%.
