Brico Depot Romania, owned by UK-based DIY and home improvement products retailer Kingfisher, has completed the acquisition of its peer Praktiker Romania, local media reported on December 4.

The acquisition will help Kingfisher increase its presence on the Romanian DIY market, dominated by local Dedeman which had a turnover of RON5.2bn (€1.1bn) in 2016. Brico Depot is one of the largest DIY chains in the country but its turnover was just €144mn last year.

“The acquisition of Praktiker Romania offers us strong presence in all country,” Brico Depot Romania general manager Adela Smeu said, as quoted by News.ro.

“We will continue investments in all stores in order to improve our clients’ shopping experience,” Smeu added.

Praktiter has 26 stores in Romania and employs more than 1,600 people. Last year, its sales reached €140mn.

Brico Depot has 15 stores in Romania with a total area of 114,000 square metres and 964 employees. It entered the Romanian market in 2013 when it acquired 15 Bricostore stores.
