The lowest price for building the Demir Kapija-Smokvica motorway section of the Pan-European Corridor X reached EUR 182mn and was offered by an Italian company, Alfa TV broadcaster reported, quoting unnamed sources. The highest price in the tender rose to EUR 400mn. As recalled, in December Macedonia received 15 offers in the tender for the construction of the section, which has a total length of 28.2 km. Candidates who have bids include companies and consortia from Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, Turkey, Germany and China. The estimated cost of the project is EUR 271mn and will be funded with a EUR 130mn loan from the EIB, a EUR 107mn sovereign loan from the EBRD, an EU IPA grant of EUR 45mn and EUR 6mn provided by the Macedonian government. Some EUR 90mn of the EBRD loan will be allocated for the motorway construction, while the remainder will be used for modernisation of the toll collection system and the toll plazas. The procedure for selecting the contractor is expected to be completed by March, Alfa TV reports.
