Hungary tourist accomodation revenues down by 3.3% y/y in Jan-Sep.

The aggregate revenues of Hungary's accommodation facilities decreased by 3.3% y/y to HUF 99bn (EUR 360.2mn) for the January-September period, latest data from the statistics office (KSH) revealed. The revenues from domestic tourists were down at a steeper rate of 6.4% y/y, while those from foreign tourists slipped by 1.1% y/y for the period. The hotel sector accounted for the vast majority of the total revenues - 86.1% and it registered lower than average 2% y/y drop in revenues. Within the category, the four-star hotels, which accounted approximately for half of the revenues, were the single growing item for the period in annual terms. The segments of boarding houses and camping sites performed weaker, as revenues declined by 11.7% y/y and 10.7% y/y, respectively. The number of overnights inched up by 0.1% y/y for the period with a 0.7% y/y increase in foreign overnights, which offset a 0.4% y/y drop in domestic overnights. Hotel room occupancy rate slipped by 7pps m/m to 52.9% in September, while still increasing by 8.5pps in annual terms. Hotel capacity in terms of number of bed-places has meanwhile expanded by 1.3% y/y as at end-September, contributing the most for the 0.2% growth in the total capacity of the public accommodations sector.
