Hungary's GKI economic sentiment rebounds in April.

By bne IntelliNews April 26, 2011
The economic sentiment index, measured by the Hungarian economic research company GKI, returned to an upward trend, improving to minus 9.1 in April, after a substantial deterioration in March, a GKI survey showed. The improvement stemmed from significant improvement in the business sentiment, while the other subindex, consumer confidence, only inched up. The business confidence climbed by 1.9 points over the month to 0.6pts in April, after recording an unexpected drop to minus 1.3 the previous month. Business expectations used to be quite favourable in the past several months, quickly recovering from the crisis and recording in the beginning of 2011 the first positive values of the index in ten years. The consumer confidence, which has been deteriorating for five consecutive months, increased slightly by 0.5ots to minus 36.8 in April. In terms of specific segments, the sentiment recovered in industry, but continued to decline in the trade sector. The confidence index remained almost flat on the month, on account of positive employment expectations that offset the deteriorating prognoses about orders and output. The overall services index fell, but the assessment of future sales revenues improved, the survey showed.
