Hungarys telecom regulator (NMHH) has called a two-round international tender for a 15-year licence for the use of a 900MHz frequency, the state authority said in a press release. This will enable the entry of a fourth mobile operator on the domestic market. The floor price for frequency block A is set at HUF 4bn (EUR 14.7mn), while blocks B and C will be sold for a minimum HUF 700mn and HUF 560mn, respectively. The winner of block A will have an option to purchase 1,800MHz frequency for narrow and broadband systems as well as 2,100MHz frequency, suited only for broadband. Investors must submit their bids by October 20, 2011. As noted, the government approved the sale of the 900MHz and 1,800MHz frequencies earlier in July. Currently, there are three wireless telecoms in the country: T-Mobile, owned by Deutsche Telekom, and the local units of UKs Vodafone and Norways Telenor. According to the latest data from the communication watchdog, Hungary's mobile market penetration continued to decrease in June, dropping by 0.6pps m/m to 117.4%. There were 11.77mn mobile subscriptions as at end June, down by 0.57% m/m. The telecoms' market shares were as follows: T-Mobile (44.5%), Telenor (32.9%) and Vodafone (22.6%).
