Gas transit through Ukraine down 9% y/y in 2012.

The transit of gas through the territory of Ukraine declined by 9% y/y in 2012 to 84.3bn m3. In particular, 81,183.14mn m3 of gas (20% less than in 2011) was transported to the countries of Western Europe and 3,078.1mn m3 (11% less) to the CIS. The pipelines of Ukrtransgaz in 2012 pumped 133,908.82mn m3 of natural gas, which is 23bn m3, or 15% less than in 2011. In particular, the transportation of gas to Ukrainian consumers was 48,760.89mn m3. Ukrtransgaz is a subsidiary of the Naftogaz Ukrainy. The main component of the gas transportation system of Ukrtransgaz is a network of gas mains and branch pipelines, which is a single technological system operating in a continuous mode. The total length of the pipelines (excluding new objects), which are operated by the company, is 38.7 thousand kilometers, including 22.2 thousand kilometers of gas mains and 14.9 thousand kilometers of laterals. The number of gas distribution stations is 1,455.
