/span> India recorded a food inflation of 17.70% for the week ended March 27, 2010 . Food inflation in the previous week recorded a lower 16.35% rise, according to the Economic Times. Overall inflation, measured by the Wholesale price Index (WPI) and includes variation in prices of food and non-food items, was 9.89% in February. To check inflation from spreading to non-food items, RBI raised its key short-term lending and borrowing (repo and the reverse repo) rates by 25 basis points to 5% and 3.5%, respectively in March,. D Subbarao, the Governor of RBI, said that the central bank will continue its exit from monetary stimulus policy to check high inflation and ensure sustainable growth.
