EVN, CNR, Verbund interested to purchase hydropower plants in Albania.

Austrian electricity companies EVN and Verbund and French energy utility Compagnie Nationale Du Rhone (CNR) have expressed interest to participate in a tender for the privatisation of four hydropower plants in Albania of combined installed capacity of 76.7 MW, the economy ministry said in a statement. All three companies have met the pre-qualification criteria. The authorities has offered for sale the HEC Bistrica 1 and Bistrica 2 company, which operates two hydropower plants in southern Albania. Bistrica 1 has an installed capacity of 22.5 MW and an annual output of 135GWh. Bistrica 2 has a 5 MW capacity and a 35GWh output. The deadline for expressing interest in this company will expire on June 4 2012. A second state-owned company, HEC Ulez Shkopet, operates the Ulez hydropower plant, which has a 25MW capacity and an annual output of 120GWh as well as the Shkopet hydropower plant of 24MW capacity and 90GWh output. The two facilities are locates on the river Mat. The deadline for expressing interest expires on June 6. We note that Verbund and EVN have jointly launched another energy project in Albania, for building the 48MW Ashta hydropower cascade on the Drin River, an investment estimated at EUR 160mn. CNR have also bid in the tender for Ashta, which took place in June 2008.
