By bne IntelliNews January 8, 2010
Stefan Fuele, the European Union Enlargement Commissioner, said that Croatia has to finalise its negotiations with the EU this year. He stressed that the country should be able to fulfil all the required conditions for EU entry, adding that some of the most challenging conditions were related to judicial reform and fundamental rights. Fuele stressed that his main task would be to ensure that any future accession is solidly prepared and strengthens the Union 's further development. In December, the previous his predecessor Olli Rehn said that the finalisation of EU entry talks in mid-2010 depends on Croatia , stressing that this was a feasible goal. He explained that the completion of negotiations depends on the progress to be achieved in judicial reform as well as in the fight against corruption and organised crime and full cooperation with the Hague tribunal. PM Jadranka Kosor has said that the most likely year for the country's entry in the European Union was 2012.
