European Parliament approves aid for energy projects in Bulgaria.

The European Parliament passed in final reading the 2010 EU budget which envisages the allocation of EUR 75mn compensations to the country for the early closure of four 440 MW units at the nuclear plant in Kozloduy. The financing is part of the approved additional compensations of total of EUR 300mn to be disbursed in the period 2010-2013. The country will receive EUR 75mn each year. Also, Bulgaria will get financing under the EU recovery plan envisaging the allocation of EUR 2.4bn next year. A total of EUR 200mn will be channelled to the construction of the gas pipeline Nabucco, in which the country participates. The Parliament approved EUR 45mn and EUR 10mn for building gas links to the national grids of Greece and Romania respectively. Bulgaria will receive also financing to build infrastructure and equipment allowing natural gas supplies in case of temporary problems with supplies.
