The European Parliament adopted a resolution on the countrys progress towards EU membership by majority vote. The resolution has been supported by 582 votes, while 24 were against it and 37 abstained. There were no substantial changes to the text of the draft resolution, which had already been voted by the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in late January. The resolution stated that the country could complete the negotiations with the EU by end of the year, if Croatia succeeded to meet all benchmarks for opening and closing of the negotiation chapters. Among the most important things, which the country had to do, were the strengthening of the public administration and reforming the judiciary.
