EU enlargement commissioner Stefan Fule says that no one is happy is with the current speed of the process and the EU is seeking ways to speed up accession process with Turkey. Fule, EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton were in Istanbul for a meeting with foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Turkey's chief negotiator with the EU, Egemen Bagis. EU officials assert that the EU is committed to Turkey's EU membership. Fule also comments that the constitutional amendments are moving in the right direction and the EU is keeping a close eye on the process. Last month, The EU agreed to open a new policy chapter dealing with food safety, phytosanitary and veterinary safety issues. With the food safety chapter, the EU opened negotiations on 13 of the total 35 policy chapters since formal membership talks began in 2005. Only one policy chapter, namely science and research, was closed.
