EU foreign ministers voice concerns over political crisis in Albania.

The political crisis in Albania, which occurred since the latest general elections last June, continues to raise concerns, EU foreign ministers concluded at a meeting of the Council on foreign affairs in Luxembourg. Although the opposition has stopped boycotting the parliament, the solution to the deadlock is still to be found. Member states welcomed the facilitation initiative by MEPs Joseph Daul and Martin Schulz, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and EU enlargement commissioner Stefan Fule. However, this initiative has not found sufficient support among the Albanian political forces yet. The Council confirmed its support towards the European perspective for the country and encouraged Albania to actively continue with the necessary reforms for the smooth and timely implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. Meanwhile, PM Sali Berisha and opposition head Edi Rama will reportedly participate in the second-round meeting with senior EU representatives in Strasbourg this week, local media reported.
