Jean-Maurice Ripert, the ambassador of the EU to Turkey, said that some Turkish politicians made inappropriate comparisons about abortion. Ripert did not mention the name of PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan but apparently his comments were directed at Erdogans remarks. Recently, Erdogan said that abortion was murder and it should not be allowed. Erdogan also said he was against caesarean births, arguing that abortion and caesarean births are a plan to reduce Turkeys population. Earlier this week, health minister Recep Akdag announced that his ministry was carrying out a study for possible measures against abortion, including a ban and limitations. Abortion is legal in Turkey up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. |
