EPP adopts resolution on situation in Albania.

The European Peoples Party (EPP) has adopted a resolution stating that the stability of the Albanian democracy is crucial to the countrys EU ambitions, EPP said on its website. EPP called on the opposition leader Edi Rama to cease the use of violent means and tactics for political ends, to refrain from any further political escalation, to respect and work within the institutions of Albania and especially to fully participate in the workings of Parliament. EPP called for an independent and professional investigation of the events from January 21, when three opposition supporters were killed in an anti-government protest. EPP also believes that the EU must support the Albanian governments reform policy aimed at obtaining candidate status for EU membership.
