Italian energy company Enel Green Power (EGP) announces that it signed an agreement with local company Meteor, which is 70% owned by local Uzun Group and 30% by local geothermal consultancy group G-Energy, in order to establish a joint venture with the purpose of researching geothermal energy in Turkey. According to the statement published on EGPs website, the new company will hold 142 geothermal energy exploration licenses previously acquired by Meteor and EGP will finance the initial exploration processes. The company announces that individual companies will be established in order to develop geothermal plants in suitable locations. Turkey currently has a total geothermal capacity of 86MW and government targets to install an additional capacity of 600MW through 2015 based on the five-year plan. Piero Gnudi, CEO of Italys energy company Enel, was quoted by the Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore as saying that 142 licenses in question can pave the way for launching geothermal plants with a total capacity of 100 MW and EGP estimates that the total investment will amount to EUR 350mn. |
