The European Investment Bank (EIB) extended EUR 50mn loan to Macedonia for financing a water and wastewater management project, the bank said in a statement. The loan will cover 50% of the total cost of the project, which is designed to increase the water supply in rural areas and improve wastewater disposal throughout the country, the statement read. The project encompasses most of the countrys municipalities. The deadline for its completion is set for 2013. The main goals are to prepare the sector to meet the EU standards, improve the water quality in smaller towns and villages and protect water in the environment from pollution. Since 1998, the EIB has lent around EUR 280mn for projects in Macedonia.
