EE: Estonian residents have highest liabilities among Baltic States.

Estonian residents have on average EUR 5,359 in financial liabilities as of end-2011, a highest number among the three Baltic States, SEB Baltic Household Outlook indicates. Estonians had the highest amount of savings standing on average at EUR 3,549, as of end-2011. Net liabilities in Estonia on average stood at EUR 1,810. In Latvia average savings amounted to EUR 1,853 per resident, with liabilities at EUR 3,410 and net balance at minus EUR 1,557. In Lithuania average savings amounted to EUR 2,413 per resident, while liabilities stood at EUR 2,363, resulting in positive net result of EUR 50. Triin Messimas, development manager of private loans at SEB, indicated that savings and liabilities are not equally distributed throughout the society. 43% of people in Estonia had less than one months income in savings, while the number stood at 78% in Latvia, and 62% in Lithuania.
