EBRD ups Romanias 2011 GDP growth forecast to 1.8% y/y.

The EBRD improved its forecast for Romanias 2011 GDP growth to 1.8% from 1.1% in its Regional Economic Prospects in EBRD Countries of Operations report. The country's official GDP growth projection for this year is 1.5%. Nonetheless, Romanias economy is seen as recording just modest" growth by regional standards this year. The countrys growth remains the weakest among the southeastern countries where the average is expected at 2.2% this year while a weaker growth among EBRD countries is expected only in Croatia (1.4%). The EBRDs projection for next years GDP growth in Romania was also upped from January, by 0.7pps, to 3.8%. This would put it countrys growth slightly above the 3.7% average growth of the southeastern European countries and also above the growth in Central Europe and the Baltic states, where the recovery after the recession episode took place at a relatively earlier moment.
