DealWatch: Value of M&A deals in Poland up by 119% to EUR 21bn in 2010.

The value of M&A deals with Polish companies as targets reached a record level of EUR 21.0bn in 2010 vs. EUR 9.6bn a year before. At that time, the number of such transactions rose by 8% to 569 deals, according to a study by DealWatch (an M&A service belonging to - alongside the ISB newswires and the IntelliNews analytical service - to the Euromoney Group). The increase was the result of several mega-M&A deals, including the privatisation of several large companies by Poland's treasury ministry, the report explains. In terms of deal numbers, the most active industry in 2010 was manufacturing with 133 deals, followed by construction with 89 transactions. In terms of total deal value, finance and insurance was the leading field with EUR 7.9bn followed by utilities with EUR 4.9bn. The number of M&A deals in Central and Eastern European countries last year rose by 7.7% to a total of 3,164, the DealWatch Emerging Europe M&A Report 2010 shows. The recorded number of transactions was far below the 2008 level when 3,734 deals were registered. The total value of deals reached EUR 142bn in 2010, surging by 50% compared to 2009. ISB
