Croatias mobile telephony traffic grows 13% in 2012.

The expansion of the wireless telephony segment in Croatia continued increasing in 2012 as the number of minutes spent in mobile networks rose 13% to 6,947mn, following an annual growth of 3.5% a year earlier, the statistics office reported. Out of this, the rise in domestic traffic was 13.3%, while the one in foreign traffic declined 5.7%. In the last quarter of the year alone mobile talk minutes went up by an annual 19% to 1,843mn, driven by a 19.4% increase in domestic traffic. By contrast, the international traffic contracted by an annual 5.3%. In quarterly terms, the minutes spent on mobile phone talks fell by 1.4% in Oct-Dec. The volume of sms messages in the last quarter of 2012 rose 12% on the year and increased 11.1% to 3,252mn in the whole 2012. The fixed-line segment witnessed a further worsening of its performance in 2012 as the number of minutes fell by 15.5% on the year to 3,876mn. The decline in domestic traffic was slightly higher than the one in international traffic. In the last quarter of 2012, the minutes spent in fixed telephony network decreased by 20.2% on the year to 918mn.
