Croatia's retail sales up 1.9% y/y in January 2012.

Croatia's retail sales increased by a real 1.9% on the year in January following an annual increase of 0.4% a month earlier, the statistics office said. In nominal terms, retail sales advanced 3.6% on the year after rising a yearly 2.5% in December. On a monthly basis, the retail trade was down by a real 22.2% and a nominal 22.6% in January. Retail trade, except for the trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, went down by a monthly 23.7% in nominal terms and by 24.2% on the month in real terms in January. The highest monthly drop was seen in sector of retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances; furniture, lighting equipment, musical and video memorials, etc. in specialised stores, which registered a decline of 28.8% in real terms and of 28.2% in nominal terms. The segment of other retail sale in non-specialised stores also saw one of the highest annual drops in January, of 27.6% on the month in real terms and of 30.4% on the month in nominal terms.
