Croatia plans to establish new telecom company.

By bne IntelliNews January 10, 2013
The Croatian government plans to join the telecommunications infrastructure of several state-controlled companies into a single network that will provide an alternative optical system to telecom operators in the country, news portal Banka.hr reported. The new company would take over the management of the optical networks of motorway operators Hrvatske Autoceste (HAC) and Autoceste Rijeka-Zagreb (ARZ), power utility company HEP, natural gas operator Plinacro and oil pipeline operator Janaf, among others. These companies have built the networks for their own needs but most of the capacity is not commercially exploited. The government should soon adopt a decision on this project. The new company is expected to be competitor to telecommunications firm HT and to take over some of its traffic. It would provide an alternative route for data transmission, contributing for the increase of the stability of the telecommunications transmission system. The idea of connecting optic infrastructure and using its capacity for commercial purposes is ten year old but it has not been realised up to now.
