Croatia foreign trade deficit down by 13.1% y/y in Jan.

Croatias foreign trade deficit fell by 13.1% y/y to EUR 295.6mn in January, the statistics office reported. Exports rose by 3.8% y/y to EUR 640.8mn, while imports fell by 2.2% y/y to EUR 936.4mn. The main industrial groups classification showed that most categories in imports did contribute for the overall decline in imports. Increase was observed in transport and equipment (44% y/y), industrial supplies (14.2% y/y), capital goods (8.4% y/y), food and beverages (6.4% y/y) and consumer goods (4.8% y/y). The negatively performing sectors were fuels and lubricants (down by 37.4% y/y) and goods (down by 83.9%n y/y). Exports increase was driven by goods (142% y/y), food and beverages (50.2% y/y), industrial supplies (36.9% y/y) and capital goods (35.7% y/y). A decrease in export was registered in transport and equipment (down by 44.6% y/y), fuels and lubricants (down by 14.6% y/y) and consumer goods (down by 2.5% y/y. Regarding trade with the EU, imports inched up by 0.1% y/y to EUR 406.4mn, while exports increased by 7.7% y/y to EUR 540.6mn. In January, imports plunged by 29.3% m/m, while exports dropped by 17.7% m/m.
