Croatia eyes EU funding for railway projects.

By bne IntelliNews January 24, 2011
Croatian transport minister Bozidar Kalmeta said that the main funding source for projects of railway company HZ will be the EU, news agency HINA reported. Kalmeta pointed out that the budget of the railway operator has been reduced by HRK 1.056bn over the past three years. Therefore, the company will try to ensure money from the EU structural funds. In November, HZ announced plans for large-scale infrastructure modernisation projects for the period 2011-2012. The company started to upgrade its railway signalling and interlocking system with a EUR 12.6mn from the EU pre-accession programme IPA.
