Croatia closes policy chapter on free movement of goods.

The country closed the policy chapter on free movement of goods at the intergovernmental conference. Croatia 's chief negotiator, Vladimir Drobnjak, said that it was possible that another intergovernmental conference to be held in May, when the country could close taxation chapter and open foreign, security and defence chapter. In addition, before the end of the Spanish EU Presidency an accession conference will be held in June, at which the country may open the remaining chapters and close several of them. Drobnjak explained that it was still possible the country to complete accession negotiations this year. The country had already opened 30 out of the 33 policy chapters. The yet unopened chapters are judiciary and fundamental rights, competition policy and the foreign, security and defence policy. We note that at end-March the Union invited the country to submit its negotiation position on the policy chapter competition policy.
