Croatia closed the EU chapters on agriculture and rural development and on regional policy and coordination of structural instruments, HINA news agency reported. The negotiations on the two chapters were wrapped up at the intergovernmental accession conference in Brussels. The successful completion of the talks was estimated as very important since they determine the amount of financial support that the country will get under the Common Agricultural Policy and the structural and cohesion funds. In the first two years of its membership, Croatia will be able to draw EUR 2.2bn from these funds. The EU aspirant will get EUR 373mn as direct payments to farmers for the first year of its membership in the Union, and additional EUR 352mn will be provided for rural development. The country's annual quotas for sugar and milk stand at 193,000 tonnes and 750,000 litres, respectively.
