Croatia closed three EU accession chapters at the Union's intergovernmental conference on November 5, 2010, news agency HINA informed. The chapters are free movement of capital, transport policy and institutions. Thus, the number of closed chapters in the EU accession process reached 25 out of 35. The country was assigned a seven-year transition period under the free movement of capital chapter, regarding the sale of farmland to EU citizens. The transition period under the transport chapter will be until 2016 for regular shipping lines, and until 2014 for charter transport. According to the policy chapter on institutions, Croatia will have 12 seats in the European Parliament and 7 votes in the European Council. Croatia will have one commissioner, one judge in each the European Court of Justice, the General Court and the European Court of Auditors. The governor of the central bank (HNB) will represent it in the European Central Bank and will become a member of the Governing Council after the country joins the euro zone. |
