Contracting foreign market for Macedonian construction companies in 2011.

By bne IntelliNews February 1, 2012
The value of construction works abroad, completed by Macedonian companies, dropped by 11% to MKD 2.2bn (USD 47.6mn) in 2011, according to data of the statistics office. The largest foreign markets included Ukraine (MKD 1.57bn, up 22.4%), Croatia (MKD 309.1mn, up 55.5%) and Romania (MKD 141.9mn, down 1.3%). Besides Ukraine and Croatia, positive growth of the value of completed construction works was reported in the markets of Italy (up 5.4 times to MKD 47.9mn), Albania (up 3.1 times to MKD 33.1mn) and Slovenia (up 58.9% to MKD 34.6mn). The main reason for the decline is that no works were reported for Poland and Slovakia in 2011, while the values for 2010 were quite significant, MKD 660.5mn and MKD 80.3mn, respectively. On the positive side, Montenegro and France appeared as new markets in the 2011 data.
