Bulgarias Trace selected as winner for building Trakia Motorway segment.

Local company Trace Group has been selected as the winner in the tender for building the 31.8-kilometre segment between Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora of the Trakia Motorway, according to unofficial information of Dnevnik daily. The final decision is expected by the end of the week. Obedinenie Magistrala Trace, comprising companies of the local Trace Group, SK 13 Holding and several other companies reportedly managed to defend the cheapest bid of BGN 137.9mn (EUR 70.5mn), VAT included, or EUR 2.2mn per kilometre. The tender commission commented that the consortium should provide explanation as its price offer is by more than 30% lower as compared to the average offers of the other companies, who have met the technical requirements: Greeces Terna (BGN 247.6mn) and Aktor (BGN 292.2mn) and the consortium between Austrias Alpine Bau GmbH and the countrys largest road construction entity Holding Patishta (BGN 373.6mn). The offers of several other companies were disqualified and their price bids were not opened. Following a complaint from one of the disqualified participants Austria s Strabag, the procedure will be inspected by the state antitrust commission. The indicative amount of the project is estimated at EUR 96mn and is provided by the EU cohesion fund under the countrys transport operational programme. The segment should be constructed by June 1, 2012. Trakia Motorway connects the capital city Sofia with the southern Black Sea city of Burgas . total of three segments between Stara Zagora and Karnobat with total length of 115 km remain to be built. The investments are in the tune of EUR 375mn.
