Bulgaria's unemployment rate up 0.1pps m/m to 10.8% in July

By bne IntelliNews August 14, 2013

The number of unemployed in Bulgaria increased by 3,452 to 355,039 in July, triggering a 0.1pps monthly increase of the jobless rate to 10.8%, the state labour agency said. Compared to a year earlier, the number of unemployed decreased by 1,495 but the unemployment rate remained the same, which means that the size of the labour force has slightly shrunk over the period.

The labour agency's measurement of unemployment accounts only for the registered unemployed. We note that the data is not seasonally-adjusted and usually underestimates the jobless rate because people without a job tend to keep their registration with the agency only for the period during which they receive unemployment benefits.
