Bulgaria, Romania ink gas interconnector agreement.

By bne IntelliNews December 1, 2010
The gas delivery companies of Bulgaria and Romania signed an agreement for the construction of a gas interconnector between the border towns Ruse (Bulgaria) and Giurgiu (Romania), the economy ministry said in a statement. Bulgartransgaz and Transgaz prepared a roadmap and agreed to speed up the construction works, scheduled for completion in June 2012. The project is expected to enter its investment phase by end-2010, so that Bulgaria could benefit from the relevant EUR 8.9mn EU grants under the European energy programme for reconstruction. Bulgartransgaz will have to contribute EUR 11mn for the gas link, which will diversify the country's gas sources. The interconnecting pipeline will have a length of 23.8km and a maximum annual capacity of 1.5bn cubic meters.
