Austrian alloys producer DCM DECOmetal targets to double the monthly ferrochrome production of its Albanian unit Albanian Chrome (ACR) to 60,000 tonnes by mid-2011, DCMs managing director Barry Gidwani told Metal Bulletin. The increased production will be mainly a result of two new furnaces to start operating at its Burrel plant. The firsts one is expected to launch production in January, rising the companys monthly production by 1,500 tonnes. Moreover, ACR projects to boost its low-carbon ferrochrome production in Bulqiza mine. The company has recently announced plans to invest between EUR 10mn and EUR 20mn to upgrade its local production units in the next few years. It reported a record monthly output of 3,000 tonnes of ferrochrome, following the activation of the second operational furnace at its plant in Elbasan. ACR exports its products to the USA, Europe, southeast Asia, Brazil and Japan.
