Albania to award concessions on four hydropower plants.

Albanias economy ministry will award separate concessionary contracts for the construction of four new small hydropower plants, the prime ministers press office said in a statement. The projects, to be implemented under a build, operate and transfer (BOT) scheme, will include hydropower plants Mala and Kryezi 3, Shengjon and Ballenje. The output of privately-held small hydropower plants in Albania surged by 62.4% y/y to 157 GWh in H1 2012, according to the latest data from statistics office. Their share in the countrys total energy generation stood at 7.5% in H1, up from 3.9% a year earlier.
