Albania ranks 90th in Global Innovation Index.

Albania ranked 90th among 141 countries in the 2012 Global Innovation Index after scoring 30.4 points on a 1-100 scale, the ranking, compiled by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), showed. The country placed 80th out of 125 countries in the previous edition of the report. The countrys assessment is based on its performance in a number of sub indexes including institutional capacities, human capital, infrastructure, market and business sophistication, technology and creativity outputs. Some of Albanias relative strengths referred to high market sophistication as a result of positive assessment of credit access and ease of protecting investors. On the other hand, the country performed poor in terms of business sophistication with weak assessment of innovation linkages and knowledge absorption. In a regional comparison, Albania was outperformed by all neighbouring countries included in the ranking Montenegro (45th), Serbia (46th), Macedonia (62nd) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (72nd).
