Albania public debt at 58.9% of GDP at end-2011 - finance minister.

Albanias government debt increased 0.7pps y/y to 58.9% of the GDP as of end-2011, Lajmeshqip news agency reportedd citing finance minister Ridvan Bode. The ministry is yet to publish official figures. The IMF warned in October 2011 that Albanian economy faces increasing challenges from its high public debt that is approaching the statutory limit of 60% of the GDP. The fund expects Albanias debt to GDP ratio to stand at 59.4% at the end of 2011 and exceed 60% in the mid-term. The government plans to reduce the level of the public debt to 58% of the GDP in 2012.
