Albania drops in global economic freedom ranking.

Albania scored 65.2 points and ranked 58th out of 177 countries in the 2013 economic freedom index of US Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal. The countrys performance slightly deteriorated from the 2012 edition of the ranking, when it rated 57th with a score of 65.1 points. The country registered progress in 3 out of the 10 economic freedom categories. Improvement was registered in terms of business freedom, government spending and fiscal freedom, which counterbalanced declines in monetary and labor freedom, property rights and freedom from corruption sub indexes. Overall, Albania was assessed as moderately free and the level of the main freedom index was 0.6ppt below the European average. In a regional comparison, Albania has outperformed Montenegro 70th, Croatia 78th, Serbia 94th and Bosnia and Herzegovina 103th.
