Former Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer has accepted the offer of Serb deputy PM and leader of largest SNS party Aleksandar Vucic to become his advisor on Belgrade's EU integrations aspirations, news agency Tanjug reported, quoting unnamed sources.

Gusenbauer, who is now a consultant for many international companies, is expected to visit Serbia on the matter soon, the report said.

His engagement in the work of the Serbian cabinet would focus on reforming and promoting Serbia across the world, helping the government present globally its achievements in the best possible manner and gain the support of EU member states for Belgrade's membership. The Balkan country is due to open accession negotiations with the EU in January 2014.

Gusenbauer has confirmed earlier for the Austrian press that he had received an offer to advise the Serbian government and considers it positive.

He served as Austrian chancellor between January 2007 and December 2008 from the Social Democratic Party (SPO). After ending his political carrier, he began working as a consultant for companies like Austria's Alpine, Strabag, Hypo Group Alpe Adria and German media group WAZ, among others.
