WTI Macedonia becomes country's first mobile virtual network operator.

Macedonian Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) said that the company WTI Macedonia has become the country's first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and has got a series of 100,000 phone numbers. WTI Macedonia is a subsidiary of World Teleconnect International Holding BV, a global communications service provider offering wholesale and retail telephony services using both conventional circuit-switched and Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony. Meanwhile, AEC told news service SeeNews that the company will provide mobile services through a leased network. As recalled, in mid-September Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski announced that the government has created the possibility for the operation of MVNOs through a reduction of the wholesale interconnection rates of the mobile operators, effective as of the beginning of the month. The MVNOs will be able to establish interconnection arrangements with the incumbent mobile operators and will not have to build their own networks. The minister added that a MVNO will be able to issue its SIM cards, have own mobile network code and mobile commutation centre, enter in agreements for use of international roaming for its subscribers, as well as offer services under its own brand. The three incumbent mobile operators in Macedonia are: T-Mobile Macedonia (market share of 52.8% at end-September), ONE (formerly Cosmofon) and Vip operator (market share of 19% at end-September).
