VUB Banka group is the safest bank in Slovakia, according to Global Finance's World's Safest Banks 2012 report. VUB is the only Slovak bank, which was included among the 12 safest banks in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The rankings are made by the Global Finance magazine on the basis of the banks' ratings by global agencies Fitch, Standard and Poor's and Moody's and on the basis of assets size. If a bank has a sub-investment-grade rating from any of the agencies, it is disqualified. VUB, which led last year's CEE rankings, fell to sixth place after downgrades from Fitch and Moody's. VUB, which is part of Italy's banking group Intesa Sanpaolo, suffered ratings cuts following downgrades on its Italian parent. The 2012 CEE rankings are led by Czech lenders Ceska sporitelna and Komercni banka, followed by Poland's PKO Bank Polski at the third place. No bank from the CEE region scored highly enough to be included in the global rankings, which are led by Germany's KfW, Dutch Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten (BNG) and Swiss Zurcher Kantonalbank. |
