Vienna Insurance Group 2012 premiums in Slovakia grow 3.3% y/y.

Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) said its Slovak business recorded gross written premiums of EUR 708.9mn last year, up 3.3% y/y, which helped it strengthen its leading position on the market through organic growth. VIG's premiums in the life insurance segment in Slovakia rose 4.4% to EUR 379.2mn and non-life insurance premiums grew 2% to EUR 329.6mn. The company said its strategy of selling life products via the Slovak subsidiary of Erste Group, has proven highly successful, showing a 19.7% growth. Vienna Insurance Group is the leader on the Slovak insurance sector, controlling about a third of the market. The group owns three insurance companies in Slovakia - Kooperativa, Komunalna Poistovna and Poistovna Slovenskej Sporitelne.
