Value of Bosnian constructors new contracts abroad soars in H1.

The value of new contracts Bosnian construction firms signed to undertake abroad jumped 310% on the year to BAM 71mn (EUR 36.3mn) in the first half of 2012, the statistics office said. The value of completed construction works abroad rose 42% y/y to BAM 62.5mn in January-June. Projects worth BAM 44.3mn agreed to be carried out by Bosnian firms in Ethiopia boosted the countrys overall performance in this sector. Agreed projects to be implemented in European countries totalled BAM 26.3mn in H1. On the other hand, the value of completed projects in Europe was bigger (32.6mn) than the one of projects wrapped up in Africa (BAM 25.4mn) and Asia (BAM 4.5mn). In the second quarter alone, the value of new contracts rose 88.4% y/y to BAM 17mn and the cost of completed works expanded by an annual 64% to BAM 34.9mn. The value of new deals in the whole of 2011 plunged 79.6% to BAM 90.3mn, while the value of completed construction works broad last year declined 56% to nearly BAM 114mn.
