Ukraine sows 19.3mn ha with spring cultures.

As of June 1, Ukraine has sowed 19.3mn ha with spring cultures, an increase of 10.8% y/y, the State Statistics Service has reported. Out of total number of the sown grain crops, resowing of perished winter and perennial grass makes up8.3%. Grain crops and leguminous cultures (without corn) were sown on 3.7mn ha, down by 7.9% y/y, including barley - 2.3mn ha (by 9.3% y/y less). Areas were extended under sowings of grain maize, soya (1.3 fold up) and sunflower seeds (by 1.3%). At the same time, agricultural economies increased sowings of corn - almost 1.5 fold (almost to 1.9mn ha) and sunflower seeds - by 31.5% (t's 1.99mn ha). The Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry forecasts total grain area (with taking into consideration winter and spring crops) at the level of 15.8mn ha in 2012.
