Ukraine lowers gas imports by 22.7% y/y in Jan-May.

In Jan-May, Ukraine has lowered gas imports by 22.7% y/y to USD 4.469bn, the State Statistics Service has reported. Imports of natural gas accounted for 17% of total imports over the period under review. Ukraine reduced imports of natural gas in Jan-Apr by 50.1% y/y to 10.6bn cubic meters. In April, the average cost of Russian gas imported by Ukraine was USD 426.7 per thousand m3. The average price in March was USD 421.16 per thousand m3. In 2011, Ukraine imported 44.8bn cubic meters of natural gas, which was up by 22.43% y/y. In value terms, imports of natural gas in 2011 rose by 49.5% to USD 14.046bn.
