Turnover of retailer Coop Hungary rises by 2% y/y in 2009.

Sales of retail chain Coop Hungary amounted to HUF 510bn (EUR 1.9bn) in current prices in 2009 and increased by 2% y/y, the company CEO Laszlo Muranyi said. No information was provided as to how the network expansion of the retailer contributed for the overall sales growth during the year, which significantly exceeded the market average. Coop stores accounted for an 11% market share in 2009 and the retailer expected to integrate around 2,000 other facilities to its network, which should boost its share by further 3-3.5% in 2010. Muranyi added that retail sales accounted for 80% of the total sales value last year. Wholesale activities provided 15% of the turnover and rental activities the remaining 5%.
