The East African Submarine System is live and well

Eassy, a second fibre optic cablerunning along the east African coast is live. Alcaltel Submarine Networks,builders of Eassy will hand over the cable to the West Indian Ocean CableCompany (WIOCC), the largest shareholders in Eassy, on Wednesday in Nairobi,Kenya. In a remark clearly aimed at Seacom, WIOCC CEO Chris Wood said thatEassy will be the first system to connect East African countries on a directroute to Europe. Though the cable is live, it will be some time before itcarries commercial traffic.  Early Augustis the estimated date for the cable to function commercially.
